>i just logged into my friendster account (yes, i’ve had the same password for 7 years now) and am touched by the sweetness that writing a testimonial was. your friends wrote wonderful things about you! they composed them with the care and thoughtfulness that one would hope to have used when being represented on the world wide web.

Do you ever wonder what studio 54 was
like? I wasn’t alive. But if you’re an
old person, just think of Kat as some
cool girl time-warped to 2003 straight
from the best party of your life.sweet, right? [ed. note: hehe]
this is what my now-boyfriend testified 5 days after we met:
she’s the queen of spring, she’s the queen of bling.
she’s like flutter sleep, where reality blends with
fantasy… shit yeah!yeah, i’m a touch (TOUCH!) sentimental, but nevermind, isn’t it nice?
another (doesn’t everyone self-mythologize just a bit?):
When you end up hanging out with rock stars
out of no merit of your own, but purely
because of Kat’s well-tuned glamour and
charisma, you’ll figure out why you want to be
her friend.i mean, he testified to my quality of person. and i feel good right now. we were in college.

nostalgia is the absolute worst. that said, this photo reminds me of summers in idaho. which were wonderful, but probably not this beautiful (who knows?). longing for something that didn’t exist, personal relationships to self-curated media/tumblr, media literacy, etc… i’m not a writer, i’m just a scatterer of passing ideas. gonna hit reblog.

I’m probably not the first person to note this, but Spring Breakers made a lot more sense to me when I realized it was basically about white supremacy, and white women’s fight for equality at the expense of men and women of color. (Yeah I know Selena Gomez is a WOC but her character bails out…
I agree with (most of) this. I read it more broadly, though, as white people exploiting not-white people to seek their own pleasure. The second scene of the film shows the two blonde girls in class being lectured on the Reconstruction. In the fourth scene, the three wake up their Hispanic friend by saying, “give us all your money.” They rob a “chicken shack” in which you see them intimidating not-white people. Etc etc (and everything Mikki noted) till we’re back to the two blondes killing about 20 black people as the film’s happy ending.
